Short summer socks with four catherine wheel lace panels on the legs and one long panel along the top of the instep. The cuffs are decorated with a ribbon border in contrast colour, and ribbon can be threaded around individual panels, leaving knotted ends dangling. This pattern is suitable for the experienced knitter. Fully-written patterns for TOP-DOWN VERSION and TOE-UP VERSION are included.
Sizes: women’s medium and large widths. Foot and leg length can be infinitely adjusted.
Requirements
Yarn:
- 100g/380m of 4 ply yarn (light fingering) in solid main clr (med/lge size); or 2 or 3 ply/laceweight (sml size);
- 25g/45m of any narrow (ca.6mm), silky-texture ribbon in contrast colour. Ladder ribbon such as Sirdar Firefly could be substituted for different effect, perhaps stranded with main colour yarn. 4 ply sock yarn in a contrast colour would look different but would still make a good edging.
Needles: the top-down version is knitted mainly on 4 dpns, but using 5 dpns for the four leg panels; the toe-up version is knitted on two circular needles of the same size.
- Metric: 2mm for small size; 2.25 – 2.5mm for medium size; 2.75mm for large size.
- UK and Canadian: Size 14 (sml); size 13 (med); size 12 (large)
- US: Size 0 (sml); size 1-2 (med); size 2 (large)
